A Workshop
Built on Patience
Saksama Masa was founded on the belief that mechanical timepieces deserve time — not shortcuts.
Back to HomeOur Story
From Jalan Tun H.S. Lee to Your Collection
Saksama Masa opened its doors in the commercial quarter of Kuala Lumpur in a period when the trade of mechanical watch service was contracting — fewer workshops, shorter attention spans, and an increasing preference for replacement over repair. We took a different position.
Our name, which translates loosely from Malay as precise time or measured moment, reflects a straightforward conviction: that the practice of opening a movement, understanding its condition, and returning it to good order is worth doing carefully and at proper pace.
We work across mechanical calibres of varying age and origin — daily-worn references reaching their service interval, pieces stored for years without documentation, and watches of personal significance that collectors wish to hold for the long term.
Our Mission
Transparent Service, Traceable Work
Every piece that enters the workshop is photographed, assessed in writing, and discussed with its owner before work begins. We do not proceed past the intake stage without agreement on scope and cost. Non-reversible steps — polishing, component replacement, disassembly — require written confirmation.
The photographs and condition notes we prepare are not administrative formalities. They form the basis of a conversation. Owners who understand the state of their piece are better placed to decide what is appropriate and what can wait.
This applies equally to a modest mechanical with a worn mainspring and to an important vintage reference in a collection built over decades.
The People
Who Works in the Workshop

Workshop Protocols
How We Approach Each Piece
Photographic Intake Record
Every piece is photographed on arrival before any handling. The images become part of the written record shared with the owner at assessment.
Magnification Inspection
Components are examined under magnification after ultrasonic cleaning. Wear assessments are made on pivots, jewels, pallet stones, and mainspring condition before reassembly decisions.
Staged Ultrasonic Cleaning
Disassembled components are cleaned through multiple ultrasonic stages before any lubrication is applied. No movement leaves the workshop with the previous service's lubricants in place.
Multi-Position Regulation
After reassembly, movements are placed on a timing machine and observed across multiple positions over several days. Regulation continues until the calibre performs within its original published tolerances.
Pressure Testing
Where appropriate to the reference's stated water resistance, dry and wet pressure tests are performed following gasket renewal. Written test results accompany the returned watch.
Written Owner Confirmation
No non-reversible action — component replacement, polishing, significant disassembly — proceeds without written confirmation from the watch's owner. This applies throughout the service, not only at intake.
About Our Practice
Watch Service in Kuala Lumpur's Heritage Quarter
Saksama Masa operates from the old commercial quarter of Kuala Lumpur — a part of the city that has housed quiet trades and specialist workshops for generations. The neighbourhood's shophouse character and considered pace suit the work we do.
Our practice covers three principal areas: mechanical calibre servicing for movements reaching their recommended interval or showing timekeeping deviation; crystal and gasket renewal for pieces where moisture resistance has declined or the crystal has suffered damage; and the Premium Restoration Programme for watches requiring a more comprehensive examination — typically pieces acquired without service history, stored for extended periods, or intended for long-term collection holding.
We work with references from the principal Swiss houses, Japanese calibres, and independent makers. Vintage pieces are handled with attention to originality — we discuss the merits of period-correct versus modern component substitution with each owner before any decision is made.
Kuala Lumpur's climate — warm and humid throughout the year — places particular demands on movement lubrication and gasket integrity. This is worth considering when assessing service intervals. We are happy to discuss what is appropriate for a specific reference and how to approach storage when a watch is not being worn regularly.
